Lee Keun-Mae
Abstract
This study is to find responsive characteristics of the Mother-and-Child Drawings and use them as tools to identify college student's avoidance and anxiety dimensions of attachment. Participants were 340 colllege students from three universities in three areas of Gyeonggi-do. Instruments used in the study were the Experience of Close Relationship Scale (ECRS) and Mother-and-Child Drawings. The data was analyzed using a frequency analysis, correlation analysis and t-test analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, the correlation analysis between attachment dimensions and characteristics of Mother-and-Child Drawings showed that avoidance-attachment has positive correlations with facial expression and number of facial parts and anxiety-attachment has a positive correlation with size of mother and child figures. Second, high and low score groups of the avoidance-attachment dimension in responsive characteristics of Mother-and-Child Drawings demonstrated significant differences in facial expressions of mother and child figures, eye contact and actions of mother and child. Third, high and low score groups of the anxiety-attachment dimension in responsive characteristics of Mother-and-Child Drawings revealed difference only in size ratio of child figure to mother¡¯s. This research suggests the Mother-and-Child Drawing can be used as a tool to identify avoidance-anxiety dimensions of attachment in college students.
